Sirens Mermaids

Drawing of a Siren Mermaid

Sirens mermaids are the sirens of mythology but also of fantasy.

There are so many ways to draw a great fantasy mermaid and this is one way, singing on the rocks with her magical song!

Greek mythology actually portrayed the siren as a beautiful singing winged woman - a fairy?

However, the more romanticized version came from the Romans who referred to a sea creature, sometimes a woman dressed scantily in weeds and sometimes as a tailed woman, or a mermaid.

So, whatever an actual siren was... we are drawing a mermaid kind of creature here.

The most important and consistent fact about sirens was that they would hang out around the rocks and sing.

Their beautiful song would lure ships close to the rocks and sink them.

They were beautiful but dangerous.

My Singing Siren

Notice this drawing does not really show her tail, but it gives you the impression that she is a mermaid. She is hanging out on the rocks, but they are actually under the water.

I have tried to draw her with the water gently circling her, and her hair floating on the water.

Water is always tricky to draw, but can be mastered the more you practice.

Try my drawing book for some more intense instruction, and ideas to help.

While I have placed this beautiful creature in the water, she is pushing herself up, looking up and singing!

Ah facial expressions are difficult, but the more you draw faces the more you will be able to play with expressions.

Open mouths are tricky, but not as hard as you might think.

I am developing a book about drawing faces, and there we will explore this more...

Siren Mermaid Face

Here is the face close up. I like to design these little drawing tutorials using a close up. You can really see how lightly everything is sketched. Relax and ....

Remember that this is just a sketch or an initial drawing which you can still play with.

Work on the mouth.
