Mermaid Swimming

Copy this mermaid swimming and improve your drawing and sketching abilities with this delightful floating mermaid.

She is just floating and bobbing at the top of the water - maybe taking a look at the bright sunny world above the ocean depths.

In this case I have not actually given the mermaid any clothing or mermaid jewelry.

She is wearing only her scales which just cover her enough for some modesty.

When drawing a mermaid's clothing and creating your own fashion design you can play with any form of women's clothing and alter it to suit a mermaid.

Have fun with the water - you could certainly add more swirling water, although here I have opted for a calm sea gently caressing the little mermaid's shoulders.

Notice, how I have played with her hair as it gently floats on the water's surface.

She has an adorable little face with a look of delight and surprise on it.

Get a good look at her features as you build your own drawing.

Remember that it is the different values which give the hair depth.

In a pencil sketch I use at least three different values, a dark for the shadow of the hair, leave the white for highlights, and a third value for the blending of the dark and light.

You will notice that even a darker value is around the real shadow areas, where the hair meets the face.

These things you should keep in mind when you are drawing.

You want to create a 3d look to the drawing.
