Why would anyone want to make pictures of mermaids?

Only because they are one of the oldest fabled fantasy creatures known to man - or reportedly seen by man.

There have been so many tales of well... beautiful women with tails both rescuing drowning sailors and the more evil ones that lure sailors and young men to their deaths.

Sirens Mermaids

Here is a Siren singing at the moon, they have been known to lure ships into the rocks.

Hah! a siren could be the original rock star!

We just have to draw them.

There are the tails and fins - wow what textures to draw, whether they are stylized or really realistic looking fishy tails.

The hair, well they are known for having long silky hair, and can be floating in the water, and flowing all around. Real drawing challenges.

Mermaid Swimming

My first mermaid is just a little mermaid floating at the surface of a calm water, her hair floating on the water, perhaps taking a peek at a prince?
