The face of a drawing, can be very important. I will also say that some artists avoid it all together, this can work, but whether you are doing a very stylized look, a cartoony look, or a more realistic sketch, it can be important to create an expressive and beautiful face.
Also, I will say that I am no expert. I am a student of art also, and I only share what I have learned here on the site, and work towards learning more.

Eyes are bright and shiny, or hooded and mysterious, dark and smoky, so many interesting ways to draw an eye. You want to illustrate the liquid and reflective quality of the eye. This is an area that you should invest some time in learning to draw.

In your learning how to draw faces there are many styles and levels. You will notice that there are faces that are just light sketches, and some are more involved with heavier shading and more precise highlighting, and it is up to you how much you want to learn. Another way of saying this is that you can have a more illustrative style, or a more realistic style.
