There are exotic women in many tales, some legends and some fairy tales. What is an exotic woman in fantasy art? These pencil drawings show what drawing an exotic woman is about - in my opinion! There are exotic women in many tales, some legends and some fairy tales.
Classic Image Of An Exotic Woman - Even Considered a Pin Up!
What is it that makes an image of a woman look exotic? Is it that she is wearing hardly any clothing? That can work. But a fantasy image of a woman even fully dressed in armor can sometimes look very exotic. Think about some cool sci fi images you have seen.
As you can see this pencil drawing I did has all of the elements of the more traditional look! Don't get me wrong, this is exotic and beautiful. I think in fantasy art we want to create something more magical than this. There are so many characters to imagine from other worlds, that might not fit this definition of exotic.
Often an exotic looking woman will have long curly hair, but I have seen some images of women that are pretty darned exotic with really short hair, or even no hair. So maybe the hair doesn't make that much of a difference.
What is it then?
An Exotic Woman With Mystery - Or Even A Cultural Difference!
Ah hah! - So maybe it is more about the mystery, about the story behind the woman?
Doesn't this image make you wonder?
The art drags you into her story. That must be what is exotic in fantasy art!
We always like a good story - and she looks like she is from another world - so cultural things, like the past, or the future - make good stories.
So...fantasy art is really all about the story!
Well, fortunately for us - there is no end to the world of fantasy and the stories just keep coming, and we as artists get to think about that - and build the images - the magic - and make them really exotic.
