Why Paint?
Why Paint? Why take the time? Why pursue something like painting? Painting is something that can never be conquered. If you are a painter who has ever felt the frustration of not being able to capture what you see, or what you imagine, I bet you have asked yourself why? And yet, once hooked you just cannot seem to stop painting.
A Quote from another Artist
I wish to quote and give some excerpts from the writings of M.A. Rasko - about Painting and Why paint?I found this quote and just loved how it sums up the life-long pursuit that gives both pleasure and frustration.
"Never underestimate the challenges of nature as it exists;there is far more than a lifetime of experimenting for any artist who would seek to catch nature with his brush."
"There is mental stimulation in this struggle to express yourself."
What is the point of painting?
The point is ...to create a picture with paint. I know this seems simple and quite a stupid answer. However, it is the only true reason. Painting is for people who have done lots of coloring with crayons, pencil crayons, using other images for scrapbooking, or collage-making, decoupage, and who have got to the point where they want to create their own pictures.
Why?
Nobody actually knows why.People who want to paint just have the want. The desire to do something is the power. The desire also means that you can do it. It doesn't matter how long it takes, if you have the desire to do it, you should do it. Nobody knows why. It has to be done.
Painting is a Journey
One of My Recent Paintings ....
Yes, painting is a journey. Life is a journey where we learn things on the outside, but most importantly learn what is on the inside. So the answer to the question - Why paint? or Why paint fantasy? is... don't. I will repeat - do not paint at all... unless you can't help yourself. No way. Don't paint - don't put yourself through it! Unless when you have leisure time you cannot think of anything else you really want to do. When you have exhausted all the pencil crayons, and every other way of filling in color on a picture, then you must paint. Paint fantasy if you cannot bring yourself to want to paint anything else. Try everything. Find what your imagination wants to paint.
Why paint fantasy?
This is a very important point.I have had people ask me why I paint and why I paint fantasy? Some people cannot understand how I could focus and paint only fairies and fantasy and fairy tales? The answer is very very simple. I paint these things because I am absolutely fascinated. I have in my past painted many other things. I have painted landscapes and some abstract, and painted home decor decoration, etc. The very important point about this is that I developed my love and interest from a journey. Somewhere along the way, I started imagining fairies and fantasy scenes from fairy tales. I love all the movies from fairy tales. I love pictures of beautiful fairies with long hair dancing in the woods. It started with Disney fairy tales, and my favorite fairy tale by Disney was Sleeping Beauty. But what I really loved about that movie was the background. I loved the characters, but I adored the willow trees and imaginary trees in the background. Since I was a little girl, I loved the beautiful girls in long dresses, but in gorgeous backgrounds. So, don't ignore those old loves. They come back and haunt you. I have never lost those passions.
So that is why I paint
There you go, don't paint unless you have to fill in those pictures with color in a more dramatic way.If the color must be more than all the other ways! If you want to experiment with the color and create magic. Color is magic to me, I guess that is why I also paint fantasy. Color can be magic in landscapes and everything else too, but to me, it was always more fantastical. Is that a word? I will be creating more articles about painting, if you must. I warn you that painting is the most frustrating and painful thing you will probably ever do. But... it is probably the most wonderful thing you can ever do.
Results of painting?
The artist that I quoted at the beginning of this page, goes on to explain that it makes no difference as to whether you actually achieve any level of excellence - Even that whether an adult or a child, it is important only that we struggle to express something we feel or see ... or in the case of fantasy - wish to see or at least imagine.
