Real Dragons

Real Dragons? I can prove to you that many very developed civilizations did see them as real.

Believe it or not most cultures have a whole verbal history with them as the star of the stories.

Imagine, parents told their children these tales about a giant reptilian creature with wings flying through the air, swooping down and snatching children that wandered too far away from home.

They told them that they danced with the stars, lived deep in the earth, and definitely caused havoc on the seas.

In every cave it was believed that there might be a sleeping dragon.

But it's true.

Now, what parents would make up such horrific stories.

They believed.

Were the stories true?

No one really knows.

I find it interesting that hundreds of years later we are still fascinated by dragons - so the tales are at least convincing.

I also find it amazing that there are scientists who devote their whole life to digging up bones of huge scaly monsters who once inhabited the earth. Are these the sleeping dragons of history?

This page is to introduce you to some of the cultures that had a real belief in dragons.

One of the first group of people who had Real Dragons were the Vikings.

In history they also refer to them as the Norsemen.

No doubt you have seen pictures of Viking ships.

The Vikings

Did you know that they built them to look like that in order to scare off the Real Dragons that were in the sea.

They wouldn't dare go out into the dark ocean without that protection. Those sea dragons scared the heck out of vikings.

Let's also note that it took a lot to scare your average Viking.

For some more facts on the Viking's Real Dragons just follow the link to Norse Dragons.

European Dragons

The European dragons that battled in the skies, and swooped down on towns causing all kinds of trouble. That dragon dance was not something to be trifled with.

The stories go on and on about the kinds of mischief Real Dragons caused them. European Dragons were not to be messed with.

Even knights had a hard time slaying them.

In fact if you read about them at the above link you will be surprised about who was actually more successful at killing them.

There were lots of knights that were pretty good at slaying dragons too!

Who else had Real Dragons?

The Far East Dragons

The Far East had them too!

Think about it. The oriental traditions or the people in the far east are one of the oldest cultures in recorded history.

Much of our mathematics and philosophy come from these areas. These people really knew a lot of stuff!

They also had Real Dragons. Much has been written and told verbally about their dragons. So check it out!

Don't forget the Greeks. They had Greek Mythology and again lots of our math and science come from ancient Greece. Guess what they had Real Dragons too!

Greeks

Smart people like the Greeks had a very strong belief in Dragons.

Who else had dragons?

The Egyptians

The Egyptians had the mathematical ability to build the Pyramids and yet believed in Dragons.

Their facts about dragons are similar to other cultures and yet different.

Oh yes, along with the Greek Mythology and beginning of the world stories I have created a page about the beginnings of Dragon History or the creation stories and they're fascinating.

Good and evil battling it out in the skies and in the seas, and who would win? Find out.

Well, that must be it right?

Nope, one more culture who had Merlin and King Arthur and lots and lots of knights.

British Dragons

All the old fairy tales tell about the British Dragons
