If you have only ever thought about starting drawing, you definitely will find some good starter material in these small tutorials.
Give them a try!
There are different techniques you can use to come up with ideas for drawing your fairy, and using various shaped wings is a big part of that. To be really creative in your drawing you will have to learn some drawing techniques to create different looks too.
Enjoy this little tutorial on some very basic drawing skills. I have shown the breakdown of how to draw a little fairy. Keep in mind, when I say this is old... I mean it - this is old, and not the greatest breakdown of how to draw a fairy! But you might start here.
This lesson has a basic breakdown of some dragon head shapes. When sketching this could give you an idea of where to start.
One of the hardest things about drawing a dragon is imagining what one looks like.
Sometimes people do research on animals similar to a dragon, try dinosaurs and/or other reptilian creatures that still exist.
How about a crocodile?
Even snakes and frogs, snakes have slimy scales, and frogs and toads have warts. How about anything that has horns? Many of the dragons you might want to learn how to draw have horns.
You might want to take a look at my Dragon Art Section for various examples.
These creatures will give you an idea of what a dragon looks like.
Horses work with every kind of wonderful fantasy art that you can create.
There are horses that just graze in beautiful gardens, horses that heros ride into battle - and these are usually really big strong - war horses.
Many people think that horses are hard to learn how to draw, but really, just like anything else, it just a matter of getting your head wrapped around the particular pieces, the muscles, and how they work together.
Don't you just love horses?
This tutorial is actually a little better, it shows the breakdown of the parts of the horse, so that it is a pretty good sketching beginner lesson.
This is a whole page of interviews I did with some great fairy artists. Yes, some of them are pretty famous in their own right!
Gave me some pretty good insights into how they think about drawing, and how important learning to draw really is.
Drawing these delicate masterpieces of nature - along with trees - is very important. In fact backgrounds, of gardens, forests, castles, windswept fields and valleys, these are all important in drawing fantasy!
I don't want you to sweat it, there are lots on the site to get your inspiration flowing. Visit my fairy drawings section to get some ideas. Also, think about the different situations you might see a fairy in.
The creatures love to lurk in beautiful meadows and gardens. These are pretty traditional, and most people love the idea of a fairy in the garden. These are probably going to be pretty, with butterfly kinds of wings. I imagine them hovering in the stems, and floating above the flowers.
But imagine the fairies of the night? Some of the famous fairy tales also talk about them being evil! So... how to approach the drawing of one of these is the very exciting subject of my dark fantasy section!
How about monsters, vampires, werewolves, warriors, and female warriors, princesses, you name it. These are all the ideas that keep my head spinning. I will even be introducing these kinds of characters in my drawing school. I really like sci-fi and even steampunk.
Are you ready?
The tutorials above will definitely get you going, on a journey that will never be regretted.
