Grimms Fairy Tales

Grimms Fairy Tales were written by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm, brothers who were born in 1785 and 1786 in a small town in Germany.

The brothers enjoyed the ancient stories, or folklore that was usually passed down to children by their mothers.

As adults these young men realized that these stories had not been written down into books, and could be lost and forgotten.

The Art From these Tales

As you are reading, I'll bet you can hardly help imagining the characters and the art that has been created, perhaps a little memory of an old book.

You might want to see pictures of fairy tale people and creatures, and this is what this site is all about.

The drawings and paintings that can be created just from reading.

When were they published?

They published their first book of stories in 1812.

Due to the fact that nobody had ever written these stories in one book before, it was very successful.

A few more books were published a few years later, and each time they had added more until they had a collection of about 200 stories.

These stories have been passed down for generations.

People Loved the Stories

People who had grown up with them were very thrilled with the vivid details and magical world they described.

They tell about princesses, evil villains and witches, handsome heros and all kinds of magic.

While children sometimes find these stories rather frightening, it helps that they teach us if we live right we don’t have to be afraid.

So I guess there was always a moral at the end.

Snow White And Rose Red

One of the least popular Grimms Fairy Tales is Snow-White And Rose-Red, at least in our time.

This is not Snow White and the Seven Dwarves - which is also a great tale, but not the same one.

Nope, not at all, it is totally different, but worth a good read. For some reason this fairy tale never made the big time.

However, if you read it you will probably remember it a bit, and I can tell you that it is one of my favorites.

I love this story and I could not help but come up with some ideas about how to draw this story and it makes up the start of my Fairy Tale Coloring page.

I have a couple of scenes from the very interesting tale of Snow-White And Rose-Red.

They are cute.

Want to learn to draw these characters?

Do you want to draw?

Can you see the pictures as you read it?

Click the image on the right if you want to learn to draw people or fairies.

I have also designed a whole section on the site with some more basic lessons in How To Draw.

Rapunzel

Rapunzel , is another great Fairy Tale.

Part of the reason I want to re-tell these stories, in a shorter more modern format, is that today's kids might enjoy them more that way.

Also I have a deep interest in giving the coloring pages, paper dolls and scrapbooking or card-making supplies, as I just cannot stop drawing the characters.

Rumpelstiltskin

Another of my all-time favorites is Rumpelstiltskin and if you click you will find a Re-Telling, again, you will probably see the art just waiting.

This fairy tale has a weird little elf, or gnome, he is quite evil, along with a beautiful young girl who is to become the queen.

The whole story is based on her trying to outsmart the villain. It is a game rather than a battle.

It is a story that always captured my attention fully.

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty one of the best Fairy Tales ever. What can I say, just enjoy

Coloring

You might be wanting some great fairies to color, or how about some beautiful Princesses, or Mermaids.

These pages are free coloring pages, but if you click the image to the right you will find a 40 page coloring book in a pdf that is full of beautiful fairies to color, that you will have forever.

Oh I almost forgot a fabulous free evil or gothic fairies to color.

Paper Dolls

I have free Paper Dolls that I know you will enjoy. They are dolls to color, with clothes that you print off, color and play with. You can make up your own Rapunzel or Sleeping Beauty story.

I have just recently added a Dress Up Games section which is fairly new, but will be filled with online dress up games of fairy tale creatures and characters.
