European Dragons

The European dragons are in french mythology and many countries ancient mythology. Read about dragon tales that usually had dragon warriors and a very evil dragon.

Do you wish to know some of the history and legends of these early creatures?

Are Dragons a passionate interest of yours?

This page will give you some more interesting facts.

Monk Kills Dragon

These ferocious creatures fill the legends of Switzerland and Germany and they mention a hero Monk named St. Magnus.

It is suspected he lived in the 8th century.

He apparently killed a Serpent who was creating a lot of trouble in a small town.

The tale says that he ordered the devil, that's what they called them, to hold still, and with his magic staff he killed the dragon by hitting it on the head.

With this action all kinds of evil entities left this area and freed it up for Christians.

That was an example of a dragon tale about dragon warriors who were spiritual leaders.

Tarasque The Dragon

Tarasque was another famous Dragon and a part of french mythology

She was a female and apparently emerged from the sea half land mammal and half fish.

She was a Serpent Dragon and very dangerous.

Her father was a water dragon and her mother a giant snake.

She breathed flames and this made her terror even greater.

Many Knights and Dragon Warriors tried to kill her and many died.

The French villagers tried to trick her, but she was too smart and always hid back in her swamp.

For twenty or more years she ate everything.

Tarasque was considered very evil dragon.

Woman Hero Kills Dragon

The one who managed to finally kill the dragon Tarasque was a woman named St. Martha.

When she arrived in the town she went out barefoot in a pure white dress carrying only a small jar of holy water and her cross.

St. Martha apparently led the ferocious dragon docilely into town where the citizens killed her.

That was the end of Tarasque.

So a pure woman who was very spiritual was able to be the Hero, after many Knights had tried. She can be considered to be a female knight.

Mind you there are lots of historical facts about European Dragons and the famous Knights who killed them.

Always more to come.

All Kinds of Other Fire Breathing Dragons

Dragons from the History of Egypt, Greece, Scandinavia, and the Orient have tales involving fire, and most of the tales refer to the dragons as Real.

Were they?
