Egyptian Dragon

The Egyptian Dragon was a dragon that represented the dark underworld and battled with the Sun God every night.

Day and night happened because of Ra.

He sat in his beautiful barge, and was gently rowed from East to West each day.

By mid-day his power was so strong, even the Pharoahs, or Kings, dared not even look at the Sun God.

Ra had only one enemy, and that of course was a Dragon.

By the end of the day Ra had to travel into the dark underworld.

He travelled with the Storm God, Seth.

Seth was a hyena-headed entity. Boy, I'm imagining those coloring pages now.

While the ancient Egyptians slept they knew that their God of Light had to do battle in the dark caverns of the underworld with the dragon lord of darkness.

This was the Dragon of Ra.

The land of the dead.

All day long he was a sleeping dragon, and at night he raged fire and chaos, until the red light of dawn proved the Sun God was much stronger.

The Egyptians drew a sigh of relief every morning when light won out over darkness.

The Sun God travelled in his barge, and if you love the Egyptian Dragon try my Norse section.

They were also of the underworld and in fact lived under the ground nibbling at the roots of the light above.
