Draw a Horse

Draw a Horse, here is a breakdown and some practice to help draw a horse. Do you want to know how to Draw a Horse?

I have and they are one of the most difficult things to draw.

On this page we will work a simple system and it will increase your ability to draw them.

The pictures are simplistic and I want you to feel free, no matter what level you may be at, to just let go and make it more free style.

You can get much more fluid and really have fun with it.

I have kept these pictures very simple in order to master the general step by step building blocks to horse drawing.

Please also make a note that at anytime you may see how you can add a unicorn horn or pegasus wings.

The first picture can be used as a reference to putting a horse picture in any position.

Okay, as you can see these are very simplistic shapes, but as you progress you will see how these are the shapes of the basic body form.

In the above picture, if you notice, we have added the basic form of the legs, and set the position.

Some detail in the head has been added and again if you use these shapes you will find they will always set you in the right direction.

Now we start to smooth out the rough edges, and bring the forms into a balance.

Add the eye just under that rectangular shape on the forehead, in fact that shape is the forehead.

Also added some of the mane just the beginning, you can take it to whatever creative heights you would like.

By finishing off the feet it starts to look like a real horse.

Finally, the finished product.

Again this horse is in a fairly stagnant position and more shading, and highlighting of the muscles working will make the drawing much more exciting.

But, in these drawings you have mastered the simple basics.

From here you should have more confidence in tackling How to draw a horse, in various positions.

I am adding another horse below to give you some more practice.

Please always feel free to check back here and reference the basics.

Also, be patient with yourself.

If you want to get more practice on how to draw a horse go to my unicorn coloring pages and see some more.

Practice Practice Practice!

Here is the practice version just to work on.
