Dragon Drawing

Here we are - ready to start Dragon Drawing.

Do you want to learn to draw a dragon.

This page will give you ideas on how to start the process with some dragon images.

Below I will begin to explain how I draw, and what I imagine when drawing.

Free Dragon Drawing Lesson Below - Scroll Down

Dinosaur shaped heads

In my opinion, and I am not a dinosaur expert, but I think all dragons actually look like dinosaurs. Interesting isn't it?

For more info about Dragons you should read my Dragon History page.

These first three dragon images are shaped like the carnivorous dinosaurs - T-Rex.

Bird Head Dragon

This dragon has a harmless looking bird shaped head. It doesn't even have teeth, but a beak.

Unfortunately, imagine him as big as a building.

Scary.

Serpent Head

I don't have to tell you how frightening these next few dragons would be.

Draw the shape, feel free to sketch very lightly. Yes, use an eraser if you want.

Sketch Sketch Sketch.

You can firm up the shape afterwards.

Condor Head?

I don't know what you think, but this one looks like a Condor to me.

Add the eyes anyway you like, in fact below is a full picture of this condor. Add teeth or sharpen up the beak.

Just remember that these pictures give you an idea of the shapes, you can loosely sketch them in slightly different shapes.

Let that pencil just go wild.

Here are Head Plates and Horns

Here are the Dragons

These dragons of course have wings, and claws, and lots of muscle work.

Once you have sketched some of the head shapes, continue by sketching the rest of the dragon's body.

For full page print outs of these dragons and some others go to Dragons Coloring for some great practice.

Try mixing them up.

Here are some of my messy sketches

Create the entire picture - Some Tips

Before I start drawing, or even during the process, I am imagining the entire piece of art.

I have a page with ideas to help imagine a dragon picture, and put it together with perhaps a horse drawing or a fairy.

Of course you can add a fairy to your Dragon Drawing, and this link will help with some ideas on how to color a fairy. As a last minute idea, you might want to add a flower drawing, as dragons might like flowers?

Okay, they probably don't, but they might eat them.

Don't forget to add some color, and if you aren't sure what color, study my color wheel, and then myhow to color page might help with the gradual building.

Get your Dragon Drawing ideas going, and create them the way you want.

Did you know that there are reasons to draw a dragon, other than just for the pleasure. There are spiritual benefits in creating a Dragon Totem, check them out at www.whats-your-sign.com.
