Andersen Fairy Tales written by hans christian anderson are some of the most popular fairy tale stories ever told.
I am presenting re-tellings of three of his tales. You will love them as they stick to his original story pretty closely. If you want to encourage a little artist with some the reading can be illustrated with great images all over your refrigerator.
You will find Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling. These are my absolute favorites, and I hope you enjoy.
These stories were written out of his own experiences, and using his imagination turned those experiences of life into some amazingly magical stories. Funny enough the works he wanted to be remembered for were not the children's stories. In fact he would argue that these works were just bits of fluff.
He wrote more serious works in his lifetime, but unfortunately for his ego it was the childrens fairy tales, that were the Andersen Fairy Tales - those would become legendary.
Perhaps he had more of a passion for the kids tales and would not admit it to himself. I will be presenting some re-tellings of these tales, I enjoy putting them into more modern language so that we can all rediscover them.
I hope you enjoy it. It is the actual tale with a surprising ending. Particularly, I was amazed at the ending of the Little Mermaid - it is definitely not the Disney version.
The Andersen Fairy Tales version is the original.
Don't get me wrong I love the Disney version of the Little Mermaid and the animation is wonderful. Really what Disney did is a re-telling or even a Fractured Fairy Tale. They took a story in the public domain and enhanced it and changed some of the ending.
See what you think.
Also I wanted to provide you with these old fairy tales so that you might realize the origin of fairy tales. They were just written by a person, and then re-written many times by others.
If there are any budding illustrators out there you should imagine the scenes as you are reading the tale, and someone could still be the new Walt Disney. Can you see what your illustrations look like? Does this inspire you to create your own?
There are many pretty Princesses to color as well as a whole bunch of Fairies.
So, feel free to explore anywhere - there are endless possibilities.
Thumbelina is one of my favorites from childhood. The magic in this tale still enchants me. The images brought to my mind throughout are colorful and perfectly illustrate my image of fairy land.
Are all these stories just filling your head with pictures? That means you are having artistic ideas, and you might want to draw.
Do you draw already?
Let's put it this way, I have some very simple basic free drawing instruction at how to draw, in case you missed it, and I have a fabulous drawing book that will get your skills ready for all the free practice on this site.
This one has been a classic for generations.
I cannot help but want to create the art found in fairy tales. The Fairy realm and all the characters from it just call me, so explore the site and find all my imaginings so far.
There are many other coloring pages, where you will find fairies, princesses, and even mermaids like the Little Mermaid, and cute little animals like the ones found in the Andersen Fairy Tales.
Even my Paper Dolls have a fairy theme.
