I Should Introduce Myself!
My Name Is Barbara Cederberg

I am an Artist!

Barbara's painting and drawing career demonstrates a progressive fascination with the natural, and super-natural world. She attempts to create a window into the almost seen, but not quite seen world of fairies and fantasy art.

A love of nature and the painting of horses and flowers in her youth led her to pursue an art and drama education while attendng Cawthra Park SS, Graphic Arts at George Brown College, and studies involving Art History, Egyptology, and Medieval History at the University of Toronto.

Her professional experience in art includes decorative painting. For years living in Muskoka, Barbara owned her own furniture and home decor store, working with designers creating furniture, decorating furniture, and creating faux finishes in the fabulous summer castles of the north encouraged a deep love of decorative art.

There must have been method to her madness, as her background fostered the romantic passion she currently still pursues in creating dramatic, slightly historic, fantasy figures set in rich backgrounds, looking out through the layers of time.

Research into the internet as a tool for artists to get their work out to the world has lead her to develop a whole world of drawing instruction and encouragement to others in the form of this site.

This love of fantasy and decor is also reflected in her current research and expansion into the world of art licensing.

Barbara believes that painting is a journey and passing on something that is a passion could only result in a great and mutually satisfying learning experience.

Acrylic Painting

This course will offer 11 weeks of studying how to use and build proficiency in the use of acrylics.

This course offers instruction in acrylic painting and delves into the world of painting with acrylics. Acrylics are water-based paint - however this is not a course in watercolours.

Acrylics have so improved over the years, and Barbara is an advocate of their abilities over their grand-daddy - oil. Some believe that an acrylic painting can compete with an oil painting in both depth of colour, texture and all kinds of mixed media uses.

It is also great for impatient souls who cannot stand waiting for the paint to dry.

Your subject matter will be chosen in the class. Mostly, this course is going to instruct in the use of acrylics, and help you develop and complete a painting. There will be something for everyone on all levels.

An assortment of techniques will be explored in this course in order to establish the feel of the acrylics and the effects that can be achieved. Some work on mixing paint and a quick view of colour theory will get us off to a good start.

The aim of the course will be to develop an idea into a concept, then a concept into a composition, and eventually a finished painting.

The beginner or advanced student will find this subject matter a lifelong passion.

Drawing Course

This will be a course with instruction in the art of using the graphite pencil. Drawing includes so many artful ways to use the simple pencil with magical results.

We will explore simple line drawing, and move into the uses of the techniques of gesture drawing, building layers of shading, using various methods to create texture and interest.

Projects will allow the student to explore the subjects of their interest, and this can include floral, figure drawing, fashion design, fantasy drawing, still life, landscape, whatever subject matter interests the individual student.

I am a great believer that the individual will improve their skill while drawing what interests them personally.

Painting or Drawing What?

So many artists get overly-concerned with what to draw or paint.

If you know what you want to draw or paint - you are very welcome in this class. You will be free to pursue what you want.

If you don't know what you want to paint - there is no better way to explore these options until you know.

As an artist I guarantee that with continued painting and developing, you will eventually know.

These courses will not dictate that decision.

Every artist is on a journey. I have arrived at a point in my journey where I am a fantasy artist and a decorative artist primarily.

I have also been guided into the field of teaching - not really planned just happening.

I actually believe that if you follow what the universe offers to you, you become what you are meant to be.

That is the philosophy of what these courses will offer.
